Bank Vlasnyy Rakhunok is a digital bank from Ukraine that aims to be the go-to card for food purchases, as they account for more than 50% of Ukrainians' spending. As the New Year holidays approach, competition among banks for payment card usage intensifies significantly. Most banks roll out special offers, and on average, every Ukrainian holds three or more bank cards. This posed a challenge for us: how could we motivate customers to choose our card for their payments? To capture the spirit of the New Year and bring it to Ukrainians everywhere, we developed an Advent calendar in our app named Kalendarynka. Given that offline events in Ukraine have been canceled for security reasons due to the war, we decided to recreate the experience of a traditional Ukrainian fair right within our app, inviting our customers to join in virtually. Naturally, guests were welcomed by their friends — their favorite brand characters, designed exclusively for the bank's communications. These characters became the true hosts of the fair, entertaining guests and delighting them with treats! Each character had its own unique personality and tasks. And there were plenty of tasks to go around! They were charged with discussing finances, organizing entertainment, exploring Ukrainian traditions, handling donations, and, of course, providing personalized offers and discounts. Some were even there just to be admired! Where else but in our bank app could you meet such a unique cast of characters? There's Mandy, who greets guests and accompanies them to different stalls; Busy Bee, who isn’t a fan of the New Year's holidays but will happily share tips on saving money during them; Cheese, who can make any guest laugh; Olivye, a Frenchman well-versed in Ukrainian traditions; blogger Kakavushka, who offers discounts on treats; and of course, Draky, a foreigner who has become a beloved symbol of the New Year! Our characters resonated so well with the guests that they started visiting the bank's app more frequently! During the Advent Fair in December, the number of visits to the app increased by 11%, and the number of guests who made purchases using the Bank Vlasnyy Rakhunok card rose by 20%!
