Freedom Square in Kharkiv was bombarded by the Russian army on March 1, 2022. According to rescue workers, at least ten civilians were killed and dozens were wounded. In his speech to the European Parliament on March 1, 2022, Ukraine’s President Volodimir Selenski said: “No matter what it was called before, starting today, every square in every city in our country will be named ‘Freedom Square.’” And that’s as it should be.  In the face of ruthless violence and the first visible war crimes, many people in Germany have tried to find the right words and in their powerlessness have looked for activities as an outlet. With #FreedomSquareIsEverywhere and in total solidarity with the people of Ukraine, we have given them an outlet and found the right words together and temporarily renamed the squares with #freedomsquare signs in our cities and transformed each one into Freedom Square. We called to our community via Press and Social Media to join us, download our #freedomsquare templates, print it and spread the word, to share the website https://www.freedomsquare.de/en with contacts and draw attention to it on social networks with #freedomsquare and #freedomsquareiseverywhere. All in all, we were able to generate more than 12 publications on #FreedomSquareIsEverywhere, countless social media posts and were in front of the Russian embassy in Berlin showing our solidarity with our Freedom Square signs, which were filmed, photographed and published on gettyimages.
