National Dilemma More than 80% of Georgians agree, Georgia should become part of the European Union, but for some this idea represents danger that Georgians will lose their national identity. Pro-Russian forces use this fear to alienate people from the European future. They demonise the European flag with 12 yellow stars as a sign of cultural invasion as opposed to the five big red crosses on the Georgian flag being closer to the national character of Georgia. Our Problem As a design agency we believe that design is for solving problems and starting important conversations. While mostly active in Georgia, we also desire to expand outside our home country to build business relationships with European agencies and brands. For both reasons, we wanted to start talking about our European future as creatives, as an agency, and as a nation, using our main tool of trade - design. Design Solution Changing stars with our beloved crosses, we created a Georgian flag of Europe - a hopeful symbol of integrating Georgian into the European family without forgetting our values, without losing who we are. Initially launched as a t-shirt, the flag follows our agency all over Europe at design conferences (Forward Festivals, OFFF Barcelona, Tbilisi Design Conference) to promote Georgia’s and our company’s European aspirations. For one of the notable appearances, Stefan Sagmeisters featured it as the last slide of his talk in Georgia, which was happening at the same time as major protests to support European integration. Results We have landed 2 European clients, and are working to expand our network. Sadly, Georgia is still not part of the EU, but we are also working on it.
