Transformation of a Typical Soviet Kindergarten into a Modern Cultural Center

The supervisor of the project is Nataliia Borochenko, a lecturer at the Department of Architecture and Environmental Design of Chernihiv Polytechnic National University.

Our project aims to transform a standard Soviet-era kindergarten into a modern cultural center that serves the needs of the community. By repurposing existing structures, we seek to create a vibrant space that fosters creativity, learning, and community engagement. 2. Project Solution Concept: Drawing inspiration from the original layout of the Soviet-era kindergarten, we plan to retain certain architectural elements while introducing modern design concepts and amenities. The facade will undergo a facelift to incorporate contemporary aesthetics, with emphasis on sustainability and accessibility. Large windows will be introduced to maximize natural light and create a welcoming atmosphere. 3. Functional Possibilities: The transformed cultural center will feature multifunctional spaces catering to various community needs. Classrooms will be repurposed into art studios, workshops, and multipurpose rooms for events and gatherings. Outdoor play areas will be redesigned to accommodate cultural events and performances, fostering interaction and creativity among visitors of all ages. 4. Spatial-Planning and Architectural-Artistic Solution: The interior layout will be reconfigured to optimize space usage and functionality. Former classrooms will be transformed into flexible spaces that can adapt to different activities, such as exhibitions, workshops, and performances. Emphasis will be placed on creating an inclusive environment, with accessible facilities and comfortable seating areas for relaxation and socializing. 5. Conclusion: By revitalizing a typical Soviet-era kindergarten into a modern cultural center, we aim to breathe new life into a community space that holds nostalgic value while meeting the diverse needs of today's society.
